Bessie Elizabeth Moore Wilson, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, September 11, 2016, at her home. Born August 3, 1927, in Georgetown, SC, she was the daughter of the late Henry Singleton Moore and Lila Richardson Moore and widow of Earl Wilson, Sr. Mrs. Wilson was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and retired from Wilson's Maintenance & Landscaping Company as co-owner and secretary. She enjoyed tending to her flowers, cooking for her family, and spent many weekends at Lake Greenwood. She was the past president of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed singing in the church choir. Mrs. Wilson also enjoyed singing with Shade Trees Gospel Group going to nursing homes and various places around Spartanburg. Surviving are her children, Earl Wilson, Jr. (Lanita) of Inman, SC, Cheryl Petty (John Hatchette) and Angela Hughes, all of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, Ben Petty, Jr. (Kelly), Mark Petty, Tracy Hughes, and Van Wilson; great-grandchildren, Justin Cook, Tray Hughes (Alyssa), Taylor Petty, K. C. Petty, Haley Petty, and Benji Petty; great-great-grandchildren, Lillie Wolf, Skylar Hughes, and Faith James West; brothers, Curtis Moore (Sheila) of Inman, SC, Danny Moore (Paulette) of Moore, SC, and Gene Moore (Rita) of Salem, SC; sisters, Janet Scruggs of Pauline, SC and Doris Clark (Sammy) of Boiling Springs, SC; and special family friend, Michelle Jessup. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by an infant son; two brothers, Donald L. Moore and Henry S. Moore, Jr.; stepmother, Doris Coggins Moore; and son-in-law, Ben Petty. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Bob Buhl and the Rev. David Ervin, Sr. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 200 Sloans Grove Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at the home of Bessie Wilson.
