Bess Blumenfeld

Bess Steinbrock Blumenfeld, 90, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, February 5, 2015, at her home. Born July 30, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Fischel and Dora Selzer Steinbrock, and widow of Louis Blumenfeld. Mrs. Blumenfeld was a member of Temple B'nai Israel, the Temple Sisterhood, a member and former president of Hadassah, and she also served on the Temple Board of Directors as financial secretary. She retired as bookkeeper for Lanier Country Club and Piedmont Realty and was an avid Mah Jongg player. A 1942 graduate of Lincoln High School in Brooklyn, NY, she ranked sixth in her class and attended City College of New York. Survivors include her children, Phyllis Woollen (Rick) of Maggie Valley, NC, David Blumenfeld (Beth) of Spartanburg, SC, Danny Blumenfeld (Autumn) of Charlotte, NC, and Debbie Blumenfeld (Bill Pellerin) of Cornelius, NC; grandchildren, Leiha, Lura, and Jacob Blumenfeld, Jonathan Woollen, Genna and Sydney Blumenfeld. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Temple B'nai Israel by Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple B'nai Israel Library Fund, 146 Heywood Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
