Bernice Owens

Bernice Faye Abernathy Owens, 82, of Spartanburg, SC, died on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born July 4, 1931, in Spartanburg SC, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Lonnie Mae McKittrick Abernathy. Mrs. Owens was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was a member of the Golden Age Club and former member of the choir. Survivors include her beloved husband of 60 years, Aubrey F. Owens; children, Frieda Owens Meredith of Simpsonville, SC, Norma Jean Owens and Aubrey Franklin Owens Jr., both of the home; sisters, Lois Ford of Inman, SC, and Helen Satterfield of Cleveland, TN; grandchildren, Stephen Bradley Meredith (Margie) of Simpsonville, SC, Shelley Meredith Burgess (Barry) of Leesville, SC, and Matthew Franklin Owens (Megan) of Spartanburg, SC; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, and Hayden Meredith of Simpsonville, SC and Will and Phillip Burgess of Leesville, SC. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, Stephen Wood Meredith; brother, Woodrow Abernathy and sisters, Jessie Jolley, Evelyn Hutcherson and Sarah Cariens. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 2:45 PM on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 350 N. Blackstock Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29301, with funeral services following at 3:00 PM conducted by Rev. Jason A. Lee and Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
