He was preceded in death by his siblings whom he loved dearly Eva Nichols, Florence Flemming, Ruby McLaughlin, Joe Schrimsher, Jeanette Waddell, and Maxiene Schrimsher.
Bennie was born in Tennessee and moved to Spartanburg, SC early in life and this is where he called home. One of his proudest accomplishments was serving in the US Army. He was stationed in Germany during the Cold War and dearly loved telling anyone with time to listen about his adventures there. He was so honored to serve the country he loved so well, and it made him light up when someone would take the time to thank him for his service. After his years in the Army he worked at Mead Containers until his retirement in 1984 as a Maintenance Technician. He was also a proud and dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Valley Falls. He loved his church and church family, and they brought him so much joy and happiness during his years of illness. He loved singing in the choir and working on the security team. It was unusual for him not to be whistling, humming, or singing one of his favorite hymns.
Bennie was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved nothing better than to be in a deer stand or blind and called it a good day if the hunt was successful or not. He was very proud to have successfully hunted a deer that was added to the record books in 2001. He passed his love of hunting on so many members of his family as well as his love for fishing and sports.
A visitation will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, December 1, 2023, at First Baptist Church of Valley Falls, 8352 Valley Falls Road, Boiling Springs, SC. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM, to be conducted by the Rev. Gary Atkins. Burial will be held privately.
Our family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses who have cared for Bennie through his years of illness. He and we were blessed to witness many miracles that stand as a testimony to the Lord and Savior Bennie loved so well. From the bottom of our hearts, always take the opportunity to thank a veteran for their service and know that when you do, their day has been blessed by your gratitude.
