Benjamin Tyler Utley, 38, of Inman, died Saturday, December 4, 2010 at his home. Born March 24, 1972 in Oakland, CA, he was the son of Dr. Joella Jordan Utley of Campobello and the late Dr. Joe R. Utley. He lived in California and Kentucky before the family moved to Spartanburg, SC in 1983. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and became a Stephen Minister in 2009. He graduated from Knox High School, Long Island, NY in 1991. He earned an Associate Degree in horticulture at Spartanburg Technical College, was a Certified Nursing Assistant, and was working toward becoming a Certified Medical Assistant. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Allen Utley; his twin sons, Joseph Tyler Utley and Jonathan Paul Utley; his sister, Jennifer Utley Phillips and husband Kenneth Franklin Phillips and their son Jayden Tavon Phillips. Ben's family also includes his wife's family, Gloria Allen, Gordon Allen, and Gra Allen. He has many treasured aunts, uncles, and cousins across the states. Ben was a loving husband, father, son, and a friend to many. He had great passion for helping others and working with those in need. He will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. David A. Renwick and the Rev. Ansley B. Page.
