Benjamin Galloway

Benjamin F. Galloway, 74, of Spartanburg, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 4, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family and close friends. Born February 8, 1935, in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late James L. and Bessie McKinney Galloway. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia A. Galloway and was first married to the late Joan M. Galloway. He was retired from Spartan Foods, worked at Drayton Mills and Logan Electric, and owned an electrical and air conditioning business. He was a member of Northbrook Baptist Church and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force and Naval Reserve. He was a Mason, Shriner, and lifetime member of Whitney Masonic Lodge #264. Surviving in addition to his wife is a sister, Sara G. Webb; a step son-in-law and step-daughter, Mark and Caroline P. Patton; a step-granddaughter, Christian C. Patton; nieces and nephews, Lamar and Amy Cooper, Ken and Sheryl Watts, Jerry and Cathy Campbell, Bobby and Tracy Freeman; great-nieces and nephews, Melissa Evans, Brian Cooper, William and Kim Galloway, Matt and Rosie Watts, Jeromy Watts, David and BJ Miller; and ten great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, James A. "Cotton" Galloway; two sisters, Barbara G. Miller and Minnie G. Watts; and two nephews, Gene Webb and Phillip Galloway. He was known by his family as "Apple Ben". Visitation will be 1:00-1:45 p.m. Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Dr. Wayne Dickard, the Rev. Adrian Allen, and Evangelist Dennis Wheeler. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303; or to Winyah Community Hospice Care, 818-A East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home. Special thanks is extended to Sue, Martha, and Deloris from Winyah Community Hospice Care, Dennis Wheeler at Medic Home Care, Cancer Centers of the Carolinas, and his closest friends, Jim and Deanie Jones, and Gary and Joyce Edwards.
