Belle Darden Griffin, 86, of Spartanburg, widow of Edwin Motte Griffin, died Monday June 10 2013, at Hospice of Charleston following declining health from Parkinson's disease. Born July 27, 1926, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late John Parker Darden, Jr. and Ruth Ledbetter Darden. Belle was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg. She was a graduate of Spartanburg High School Class of 1943 and attended Converse College. Belle was an active member of the Spartanburg community for many years where she contributed her time, energy, and talents to many organizations, including First Presbyterian Church, Pine Street School, Fleur-de-Lis Garden Club, Fernwood Pool and many other groups. Belle was an energetic, outgoing, fun-loving, dedicated, and generous person greatly loved by all who were blessed to know her. She is survived by her two sons, Edwin Motte Griffin, Jr. and his wife Molly, and John Darden Griffin and his wife Margaret, all of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and her six grandchildren, Jeffrey Motte Griffin, Leslie Hamilton Griffin, Elizabeth Darden Griffin, Catherine Spencer Griffin, Grace Bryan Griffin, and John Darden Griffin, Jr. She was predeceased by her sisters, Ruth Darden Ostrowski and Elizabeth Darden Seebert. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 12, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Dr. Thomas E. Evans.
