Mary Rebecca “Becky” Carr Clayton Howell died peacefully in Spartanburg, SC on May 29, 2021, at the age of 79. Becky is survived by her brother Dick Carr of Augusta, GA and her identical twin sister Peggy Daniel of Gaffney, SC; daughters Nancy Clayton (Kevin Parks) of Asheville, NC, Peggy Ellis (Robert) of Lockhart, SC and stepsons Trip Howell (Pamela) of Asheville, Todd Howell (Leigh) of Knoxville, TN, Mark Howell of Atlanta, GA and John Howell of Vancouver, Canada; 11 grandchildren, 2 great grands, and beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends, as well as her adored canine companion, Bailey. Becky was born on October 16, 1941 in Gaffney, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Margaret Carr, husband Harrison Clayton, daughter Cathy Clayton and husband Billy Howell.
Becky graduated from Gaffney High School and Converse College. Married to Harrison, Becky lived in Germany, GA, NC & SC; dedicating her time and talents to raising her 3 cherished daughters, gardening, time on the family farm, cooking, volunteering and working as a Preschool teacher at Westminster Presbyterian and with “the girls” at ETV. She gave generously of her time and attention to family, friends and strangers alike. Becky’s faith remained resolute through tragic loss in her family. She remarried in 1989 and built a vibrant, blended family that remains strong today. Becky was an adoring grandmother, readily prepared for an activity or craft – from making chocolate stack cookies or apple sauce, to Coke-can-target-shooting with the BB gun – a visit to GranBecky’s offered something for everyone! She fiercely loved her family and friends and was always up for ‘solving all the world’s problems’ with anyone in need of a late night chat.
