Beatrice Wiebenga Riley, 102, of 21 Angela Circle, Inman, and White Oak Manor, passed away on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born August 21, 1907, in Morrison, IL, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rena Kooi Wiebenga. A graduate of Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago, IL, in the area of nursing, she worked for Dr. John Kemp in Michigan City, IN, for over 30 years. She was a resident of Lake Alfred, FL, before moving to Inman. She was a lifelong Republican and enjoyed telling how the other nurses took her down to register to vote when she turned 21. She took pride in voting in her first Presidential election. Herbert Hoover won! Voting was very important to her, and she looked forward to the next election. She was a member of the Spartanburg County Republican Women's Club and was awarded the David Eckstrom Award for leadership in service. Survivors include a son, Wayne (Mary Ann) Riley of Inman; daughters-in-law, Verna Riley of Orange Park, FL, and Norma Riley of Michigan City, IN; five grandchildren, Pamela (Kirk) McLean, Patrick Riley, Mike Riley, David Riley, and JoAnn (Patrick) Miller; ten great-grandchildren, Derek and Jerry Riley, Troy, Drew, and Riley McLean, Shane, Kennen, and Colin Riley, Jessica (Paul) Greer, and Tara Riley; two great-great-grandchildren, Ryne and Natalie Riley; a sister-in-law, Viola (Tom) Hall; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Hyde Riley; two sons, Kenneth and Jerald Riley; two brothers; five sisters; and three step-brothers. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at Second Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Steven H. Rhodes. Interment will be held in Indiana at a later date.
