Mr. Bates Lupo Scoggins, Jr., 88, of Jonesville, SC, died Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Union Medical Center. A native of Mullins, SC, he was a son of the late Bates Lupo and Frances Earle Scoggins.
He was a 1958 graduate of Wofford College where he was a member of the tennis team. Upon college graduation, he served in the United States Air Force. Following his service in the US Air Force, Mr. Scoggins began his 39-year career at Kohler Company, retiring in senior management. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Union where served on the finance committee and as an usher.
Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and cheering on the Wofford Terriers.
Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Patricia (Pat) Ann Goforth Scoggins, son, Stephen B. Scoggins (Alice) of Spartanburg; daughter, Susan Jolly (Randy) of Easley; three grandchildren, Mary Kathryn Ward (Justin), Sarah Scoggins and Matthew Scoggins (Chelsea) and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Scoggins Floyd and a brother, Carol E. Scoggins.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, December 15, 2023, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307 conducted by the Rev. Lee Phillips. Visitation will be at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wofford College Terrier Club, 429 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or to Grace United Methodist Church, 201 South Church Street, Union, SC 29379.
