Basford "BB" Belew Bryson, Jr.

Basford (BB) Belew Bryson, 86, of Spartanburg, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at Summit Hills of Spartanburg.  He was born October 31, 1936, in Spartanburg, a son of the late Basford Belew Bryson and Onida Scott Bryson and husband of 64 years to the late Carolyn Elaine Moore Bryson.

BB was a member of the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg for 35 years and where he was chairman of the finance committee and a Deacon. He was the former president of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, former president of the SC Automobile Dealers Association and long-time member of the Spartanburg Downtown Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a graduate of Wofford College where he was a former member of the Board of Trustees.

Survivors include his son, Jeff Bryson (Kim McCrary) of Brevard, NC, Barry Bryson (Denise) of Spartanburg, and Benjamin Bryson of Charleston; eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a brother, Scott Bryson of Michigan.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Celia Gettys and Mary Wilson.  

Visitation will be at 10-10:45AM, Thursday, May 25, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, 250 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00AM, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone and the Rev. Brian Hedding. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood- Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Spartanburg Missions.
