Barbara Ann Baldwin Sweeney, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born September 2, 1929 in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Silliman Baldwin, Sr. and Helen Downing Baldwin and the widow of Dale Lewis Sweeney. A graduate of Mount Vernon College, Mrs. Sweeney was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the women's PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization). She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Naples, Florida where she served as an elder and deacon. She was also a member of the Homemaker Division of the Collier County Extension, a longtime volunteer for Mobile Meals, a volunteer driver with the Red Cross during the Korean War, and honored recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Survivors include her daughters, Lynn Marie Cogdill of Spartanburg, SC and Sharon Ann Sweeney of Mechanicsville, VA; grandchildren, Brittany Cogdill Jones (Matthew), Erin Carlton Poland (Burke), and Bryan Douglas Carlton (Sally). She was adored as GiGi by her great-grandchildren, Landon Berkeley Poland and Parker Jane Carlton. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph Silliman Baldwin Jr. and James Downing Baldwin. A service honoring her memory will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday, March 18, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, by The Rev. Joanne R. Hull.
