B. Shapiro

B. Herbert Shapiro, 97, of Spartanburg, died Friday, June 15, 2012, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born June 18, 1914, in Rock Hill, SC, he was the son of the late Samuel and Kate Schwartzman Shapiro. Mr. Shapiro was the oldest living member and past president of Temple B'Nai Israel of Spartanburg, past president of the South Carolina State Chapter of B'Nai B'rith, a graduate of USC, an avid golfer and member of Creek Golf Course. Surviving are his wife, Florence Jane Sacco Shapiro; sons, Stephen G. Shapiro and wife Ann of Los Angeles, CA, Dr. William A. Shapiro and wife Willa of Santa Barbara, CA, and Thomas G. Shapiro of Boston, MA; son, William Rossi and wife Natalie of Landrum, SC; daughter, Tina R. Grimes and husband John of Lexington, SC; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a brother, Dr. Eugene Shapiro of Florida, formerly of Asheville, NC. He was predeceased by his first wife, Miriam Wolfson Shapiro; and his brother, Sydney Shapiro. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Monday, June 18, 2012, at Temple B'Nai Israel, by Rabbi Yossi Liebowitz. Burial will be in Lou Pollack Cemetery, Asheville, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple B'Nai Israel, 146 Heywood Avenue, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home.
