B. Rodgers (Rod) Berry, 90, of Pacolet, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born September 12, 1923, in Fork Shoals, Greenville County, SC, he was the son of the late Will and Marie Rodgers Berry and husband of 65 years to Ruth Blackwell Berry. Mr. Berry was the owner of R & R Farms, Blackwell Service Station, and cattle farmer. He was a member of Pacolet United Methodist Church where he served as trustee and other various positions. He was a charter member of Pacolet Fire Department, Trough Shoals Masonic Lodge #228, Pacolet Lions Club, and the Spartanburg Assessment Board of Appeals for over 30 years and had served as chairman. Mr. Berry was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force serving in the Philippines during WWII. Surviving are son, Mike Berry and wife Yvonne of Pacolet, grandson, Michael Berry and wife Lauren of Columbia, SC; nieces Almeda Vaughn and husband Eddie and Rebecca Dill and husband Frank all of Simpsonville, SC; and his very special poodle, Smokey. He was predeceased by sister, Sarah Fowler; brothers, Willard Berry and Hudson Berry. The family would like to express their special thanks and appreciation to Elaine and Joni Ware, Jo Jenkins and Ann Sprouse for all their love and support they gave to Rod. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 AM Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Pacolet United Methodist Church Williams Building, 7060 South Pine Street, Pacolet, SC 29372. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM at the Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Hill. Entombment will be in Pacolet Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 141 Memorial Drive, Pacolet, SC 29372. Honorary escort will be members of the Pacolet Lions Club. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pacolet United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 427, Pacolet, SC 29372.
