Avanelle Gravley Gaunce, 82, of Pauline, SC, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born September 21, 1931, in Liberty, SC, she was the daughter of the late Carey and Lillie Gilstrap Gravley. Mrs. Gaunce attended Asbury College in Wilmore, KY, received her BA Degree from Limestone College, and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education from USC. An avid reader, she taught Exceptional Children at Whitten Center in Clinton, SC and in Union County, SC. She was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, enjoyed the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class, and was a choir member. She was also a member of Retired Teachers of Spartanburg County and Spartanburg County B.E.S.T. Child Evangelism. Survivors include her children, Deborah Gaunce Huitt, Carol Gaunce Hazel (Rick), and Elaine Gaunce Webb (Larry); and four grandchildren, Karey, Jamie, Justin, and Annabelle. She was predeceased by her husband, James Richard Gaunce; and daughter, Belinda Frances Gaunce. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 26, 2014, at Philadelphia Baptist Church, 3119 Highway 56, Pauline, SC 29374, by the Rev. Charles Eaton. Burial will be in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. Honorary escort is the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class.
