Aurelia Moon Vassey, 80, formerly of the Cherokee Springs Community, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Valley Falls Terrace after an extended illness. Born September 14, 1931, in Lexington, NC, she was the daughter of the late J. J. and Emma Easler Moon and wife of the late A. H. "Fat" Vassey. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and the Young at Heart Sunday School Class. She was retired from Arrow Automotive Industries. Mrs. Vassey was an avid sports fan, a fan of the late Dale Earnhardt, and a supporter of the USC Gamecocks. She loved her family, her church, and her pastor. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Roberts and a son, Chris Vassey (Jean), all of Spartanburg; grandchildren, Casey Hill (Matt), Megan Vassey (Tommy Tommes), and Sawyer Vassey, of Spartanburg, and David Roberts (Kaci) of Cowpens; great-grandchildren, Kylan and James Roberts, Cade Brown, and Ayla Tommes; a sister, Esther Williams (Ray) of Boiling Springs; and a brother, Cleon Moon (Mildred) of Traveler's Rest. She was predeceased by brothers, Wilford and James Moon. Mrs. Vassey was affectionately known as "Wuh-Wuh" to several special nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, August 12, 2012, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 13, 2012, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charlie Glover. Burial will be in the Cherokee Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Chuck Moon, Jeff Moon, Stan Moon, Stanley Moon, Steve Williams, and Scott Wood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 635 Mt. Pleasant Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family is at their respective homes.
