Audrey Marie Sloan, 77, of Boiling Springs, SC went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at Spartanburg Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth Speeney of Swannanoa, NC. A long-time resident of Spartanburg County, Audrey graduated from Miami Norland Senior High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Warren Wilson College. There she worked as Activities Director, Athletics Director, managed the college bookstore, gallery openings and coached cheerleading. Audrey then accepted a position at Gardner-Webb University as Activities Director and then in Goal Admissions where she retired in 2015. Audrey was active in the DAV as the Unit Commander as well as volunteering her time at the Spartanburg VA Clinic. Audrey was a lover of the arts and theater. She also loved the beach, walking outdoors and good music. Audrey was a gifted communicator who made everyone she met feel heard and appreciated. To speak with Audrey was the best medicine for a troubled mind, her sense of calm and perspective were gifts that helped us to stay the course even when things appeared to be at their darkest. She loved without reservation or judgement, a gift that she gave both personally and professionally. Surviving are her husband, James Kenneth "Ken" Sloan of the home; daughters, Cynthia Carol Smith (Thomas) of Candler, NC and Jeneffer Katrina Pruett (Keith) of Huntersville, NC; daughter-in-law, Sherry Deanna Melton (Stewart) of Richburg, SC; grandchildren, Jordan Taylor Ownbey of Candler, NC, Annalisa Christina Wayman (Nathan) of Virginia Beach, VA, Ashley Bryan Henson (Chris), William (Rob) Bryan of Tampa, FL, and great-grandchild, Ramona Sloan Henson. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. No flowers please. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
