Arnold Talmadge King, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at his son, Stanley’s home in Union. Born February 22, 1928, in Wellford, SC, he was the son of the late Vernon Tilden King and Mary Belle Buchanan King.
As a US Navy, WWII veteran, Mr. King, proudly served his country.
Talmadge worked many years as a printing press operator and printing supervisor for White Bag Company, Harley Bag and Union Camp until he retired. He and the love of his life, Mae, traveled across the United States and Canada. Many of their trips were with Campers on Mission, sharing Christ wherever they traveled. Talmadge and Mae were long time active members of Oak Grove Baptist Church and later, active members of Mount Zion Baptist Church until they moved into an assisted living facility.
Survivors include his sons, Rev. Steven King (Rev. Sandra) of Spartanburg, SC and Stanley King (Pam) of Union, SC; son-in-law, Chick Gosnell of Simpsonville, SC; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 74 and a half years, Mae P. King; daughters, Rev. Linda Gosnell and Carolyn Lawter; son, Larry King; brother, Leonard King; son-in-law, Gary Lawter; sister, Mae Bryson (James); brother Paul King (Madge).
Visitation will be 1:00 – 1:45 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Mount Zion Baptist church, 842 Mount Zion Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM in the church, conducted by the Rev. Harold King. Committal service will follow in Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
