Arlene Walton

June 21, 1931 — August 11, 2020

Mrs. Arlene Tombow Walton, 89, lifelong resident of Solon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020, at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born June 21, 1931, in Solon, she was the daughter of the late John Russel Steel and Wynona Oriana Smith. She was the widow of Donald George Tombow and John E. Walton. Mrs. Walton attended Bowling Green University where she met her first husband, Donald, and was the former co-owner of Neat Line Co. She was a very active member in the Solon community. She was a member of Pioneer Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Burroughs Nature Club, North Solon Women's Club, Christian Women's Club, The Dandelions, The Red Hatters, Bridge Club, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She also had a passion for playing piano, harp, and as shown by many memberships of different societies and clubs, the Hammered Dulcimer. She enjoyed going with friends to the Cleveland Playhouse Theatre and was a season ticket member. She was a lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns, the Cleveland Indians, and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mrs. Walton, and her late husband, John, were active members of the traveling RV club, the GMC Great Lakers. They traveled all across America in their GMC RV affectionately known as "The Toad" due to the giant toad painted on the side. They met other members every year in Florida from December to April to escape the harsh winters of the Great Lakes region. Survivors include her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Doug Vess of Spartanburg, SC, her son, Michael Tombow of Ohio; her loving grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Joseph "Joey" and Jennifer Hrovat of Myrtle Beach, SC; several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; faithful step-daughter, Sue Walton (Bob) of Virginia and step-son, David Walton of Ohio. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 PM Thursday, August 20, 2020, at Kindrich-McHugh Steinbauer Funeral Home in Solon, Ohio. A service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, August 21, 2020, in the Crown Hill Mausoleum in Twinsburg, Ohio. A private graveside service will follow for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in the memory of Arlene Tombow Walton to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601; or the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
