Arielle (Tina) Wilson passed away at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice House on Saturday, April 20th after a long illness.
A gentle and loving woman with a large family, Arielle leaves behind three adult children, eight grandchildren, two nieces, one grandniece, and three grandnephews. Her kind and humble personality made an indelible impression not just on her family, but on everyone who knew her, including the Jewish community of Spartanburg, which she joined after converting to Judaism.
Arielle was born March 26, 1951, in Spartanburg, to John Surenson and Sarah S. Williams. She received an undergraduate degree from Converse College in 2007, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Concordia University in 2010, and a Doctorate in Higher Education, also from Concordia, in 2019. She taught Special Education at Gettys D. Broome High School from 2012 until her retirement in 2023. Throughout her career, Arielle was a passionate advocate for special needs children, an active member of Congregation B’nai Israel, and she served on the Board of Architectural Design and Historic Review for Spartanburg County.
Arielle will be missed, and her memory will always be cherished, by her loving family, her dear friends, and the community she so faithfully served.
