Archie Deaton

July 14, 1930 — February 24, 2011

Archie Scott Deaton, 80, of Spartanburg, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a short battle of cancer. Born July 14, 1930, in Cherokee County, he was the son of the late Carl and Lelia Childers Deaton and husband of the late Janice Carnell Morgan Deaton. Mr. Deaton was a surveyor in Spartanburg for 54 years and owner of Deaton Land Surveyors, Inc. He was a U. S. Naval Reserves veteran, a member of Glendale Wesleyan Church, and a member of the SC Professional Land Surveyors Association. Survivors include four daughters, Cindy (Mitch) Copeland of Spartanburg, Amy Deaton of Spartanburg, Janice (Ron) Newbold of Roebuck, and Nikki "Baby Girl" (Mark) Belue of Landrum; a son, Jeff Deaton of Spartanburg; three grandchildren, Jason (Christina) Slaten, Scottie Fisher, and Landon "Baby Boy" Deaton; one great-grandson, Mathew Slaten; a brother, Forrest (Sarah) Deaton of Spartanburg; and a sister, Betty (Leonard) Reece of Taylors. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul Deaton. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Monday, February 28, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Frank Cantrell and Mr. Ron Newbold. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to SRMC Hospice Special Needs Fund, 120 Heywood Avenue, Suite 300, Spartanburg, SC 29302. The family is at the home of his daughter, Amy Deaton, 122 Phifer Dr., Spartanburg.
