Annie Porter

Annie Maude Gowan Porter, 94, of Spartanburg, died Monday, March 28, 2011 at White Oak Estates. Born August 13, 1916, in Walnut Grove, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Alberry and Annie Maude O'Sheilds Gowan and wife of the late Odette Porter. Mrs. Porter was the retired assistant to the president of Spartanburg Technical College, a member of Southside Baptist Church and a member of Class of the Open Door Sunday School which she loved dearly. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Peggy Gowan Gregory (Jim), Barbara Gowan Alley (Joe), James C. Gowan, Jr. (Sharon), and Janice Gowan Jones (Wade); eleven great nieces and nephews; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four brothers, James Charlie "JC" Gowan, Clifford Wilson "Pete" Gowan, Joseph Manning Gowan, and Thomas Earl Gowan. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Lynne Alley Grant. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will follow at the graveside. Memorials may be made to Hospice Care of South Carolina, 110 Dillon Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
