Annie Elizabeth "Betty" Foster Goldie, 87, a native of Fairforest, SC, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Eden Terrace, Spartanburg, SC, after a brief illness. She had resided in Columbia, SC since the 1950's until she became a resident of Eden Terrace a few years ago. She was born September 1, 1923 in Fairforest, in the Foster family home place, a landmark from 1790 until the 1940's, a daughter of the late Wilbur Clyde and Annie Hall Foster. Educated in the Fairforest Public Schools, and a graduate of Winthrop College, she later earned a Masters Degree in Public Health Education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. For many years, she was a public health educator for Richland County, SC. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia. She was married in the 1970's to Robert F. Goldie, M.D., Public Health Administrator, who died only a few years later. Betty is survived by her brother, Harry Hall Foster and his wife Joyce of Gaffney, SC; sisters-in-law, Anne H. Foster of Spartanburg and Minerva W. Foster of Anderson; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Kate Louise Foster of Fairforest, SC; and by brothers, William C. Foster of Anderson, SC; and James Dodd Foster and David Rankins Foster and his wife Lucille, all of Spartanburg. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Joe Dempsey. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
