Anne Sloan Horton Palmer of Spartanburg, SC, formerly of Salisbury, NC, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at Evergreen of Eden Terrace.
Born June 12, 1930 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of Wilma Cash Sloan and John Sewell Sloan. Mrs. Palmer was predeceased by her parents, husbands Reid Horton and Grover Palmer, a son, Samuel Reid Horton III “Chip”, and sister Joey Sloan Beck.
Anne was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury, NC. She was active in the Historic Salisbury Foundation serving as a docent for the Hall House, the Symphony Guild, the United Arts Council, and the Charity League of Salisbury. Anne was also very active in two bridge clubs.
Survivors include son, Michael Horton (Sherri); daughter-in-law, Donnell Peeler Horton; grandchildren, Claire Horton Apple (Derrick), Connor Horton (Crystal), Jared Horton (Shannon), and Seth Horton (Sara Beth); great-grandchildren, Colin, Isabel, Amelia, Zachary, Madelynn and Collins; a sister, Barbara Sloan Shepherd; and nieces and nephews, John Beck (Pat), Libby Beck Brookshire (Bruce), Greg Shepherd (Terry), and Lisa Shepherd Smith (Brian).
Family and friends are invited to a gathering of friends to celebrate Anne’s life, to be held at Eden Terrace in the Bistro on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from 3:30-5:00 PM. Graveside services will be held 10:00AM, Friday, June 16, 2023, in Salisbury National Cemetery, 202 Government Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Eden Terrace Employee Fund, Eden Terrace, 2780 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307 or to Interim Healthcare/Hospice, 16 Hyland Road, Greenville, SC 29615.
