Anne Lopshire

November 1, 1935 — November 29, 2009

Anne Taft Lopshire, 74, of Spartanburg, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2009, at her home after an extended illness surrounded by her family and friends. Born November 1, 1935, in Crawford County, WI, she was the daughter of Hazel Copus Taft of Davenport, IA, and the late Harley Taft. In 1944, the family moved from their farm to Madison, WI, where she attended and graduated from East High School in 1952. During her teen years she worked in her mother's restaurant until the end of her high school years. In 1953 the entire family moved to Davenport, IA, where she later met and married Arthur Virgil, and they had three children. In 1972 they were divorced, and she later met Leo Lopshire of Davenport, whom she married in Salt Lake City, UT, in 1973. They returned to Iowa in 1974, and in 1975 they returned to Salt Lake City so her husband could attend Salt Lake Technical College where he majored in Architectural Drafting. After graduation they again returned to Iowa. Due to the lack of drafting jobs in the Quad-City, Iowa, area, they moved to Spartanburg, SC, in March 1979, where they have lived for thirty years. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Surviving in addition to her mother and husband are two daughters, Felice Lynn Virgil of Spartanburg, and Denise Virgil of McKinney, TX; a son, David Luke Virgil and his wife May of Hawaii; a sister, Beverly Voss and her husband Tom of Davenport, IA; two nephews in Minnesota and Illinois; thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson. Graveside services will be held at Haney Ridge Cemetery in Crawford County, WI. The J. F.
