Anne Foster

Jeanette Anne Hendley Foster, 84, died Tuesday, October 27, 2015, in Spartanburg, SC as a result of heart failure. Born December 17, 1930, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the eldest daughter of the late Vincent Orr "Tom" Hendley and Doris Hawthorne Smith Hendley. Mrs. Foster's favorite job for over sixty years has been as a wife, mother and grandmother. However, she enjoyed a career in advertising, special events, publication, and community relations with WSPA Radio/TV, The Aug. W. Smith, Co. department store, and Spartanburg Technical College. She was known for her creative and artistic talents from sewing, drawing, decorating and baking to writing. For forty-eight years, Mrs. Foster and her husband, James Dodd Foster, were partners in their family life, farming, diverse careers, and in their retirement, at Cherokee Springs Azalea Farm. Mr. Foster died in 2001. In recent years, Mrs. Foster rejoined Bethel United Methodist Church, in Spartanburg, SC, where she first became a Christian and grew in her faith. The Christian beliefs and education from her teachers and pastors culminated in a life well lived for over 80 years. Surviving are her beloved children, Kathryn Anne Foster, of Spartanburg, SC; James Dodd Foster, Jr. and wife, Lee Breland Foster, and her beloved granddaughter, Breland Anne Foster, of Powdersville, SC. Also surviving are Mrs. Foster's sister, Laura Hendley Catto, of Moore, SC and many very special nieces, nephews, and their spouses and children. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Foster was predeceased by one sister, Doris Hendley Claffy in 2014, and two brothers, Thomas A. Hendley in 1995, and William D. "Bill" Hendley in 1970. A memorial service is planned for Friday, October 30, 2015 at 2:00 pm in the Wallace Fridy Chapel at Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, SC. The family will greet friends prior to the service in the church parlor beginning at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Youth Missions Fund at Bethel United Methodist Church of Spartanburg, 245 S.
