Anna Mcqueen

Anna Jean Altman McQueen, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Dillon Pointe Assisted Living. Born November 13, 1928, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late William Lee and Pauline Hayes Altman, and widow of Dr. John Donald McQueen. Mrs. McQueen was a member of Ben Avon Baptist Church and a master gardener. Her quest for knowledge was rewarded as she received two undergraduate degrees from Converse College in English and History, a Certificate in Christian Education from Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, KY, a Bachelor of Nursing from Johns Hopkins University in 1955, a Master of Science in Counseling/Psychology from Towson State University, and also a Master of Health Science from Towson State University. She was a registered nurse for a number of years and later became a professor and counselor of Health Science at Towson State University. Survivors include her children, John McQueen of Fairfax, VA and Lynn Van Gieson (Hal) of Arlington, VA; granddaughters, Julia Van Gieson, Elizabeth Van Gieson, Cara Van Gieson, and Skye Van Gieson; and a sister, Billie Lee Green of Bealeton, VA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Donald Lee McQueen. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Tim Pond. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. The family will receive friends at 1:00 PM for a reception at Dillon Pointe, 104 Dillon Pointe Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
