Ann Harrelson Ayres, 88, of Simpsonville, and a longtime resident of Spartanburg, passed away on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Brookstone Terrace of Simpsonville. Ann was born on October 12, 1936, in Spartanburg, a daughter of the late Margaret Wilder Harrelson and Jesse Parks “J.P.” Harrelson, Jr. She was married to the late William Corley Ayres.
Ann was a longtime member of First Baptist Church-Spartanburg, and in more recent years she participated in services by watching the Encouraging Word Television Ministry. She was instrumental in organizing and participating in the Ladies First Thursday group at her church. She was also a former member of the Hillbrook Merry Tillers Garden Club.
She received her BA degree from Limestone College. Her work talents were varied, serving as the Alumni Director for Limestone College and also was employed by the Spartanburg Herald-Journal.
Surviving is her daughter, Suzanne Ayres Schlotterback (Derek) of Simpsonville, SC; her granddaughter, Abigail Schlotterback of Simpsonville, SC; a niece, Carole Truesdale (Jay) of Moncks Corner, SC; and a nephew, Michael Settle (Laura) of Gainesville, VA. Ann was predeceased by her sister, Judith H. Settle.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Monday, March 10, 2025, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A service to honor and celebrate Ann’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Sal Barone. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Limestone University, 1115 College Drive, Gaffney, SC 29340 or to Greenville Humane Society, 305 Airport Road, Greenville, SC 29607.
