Amy Cornelia Pettit Giles Wood, 90, of Spartanburg, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Windsor House Assisted Living. Born August 18, 1920, in Spartanburg County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Ozane and Mary Louise Allen Pettit. She was first married to the late W. Frank Giles, Sr. and then to the late Ralph R. Wood. Mrs. Wood taught school for 37 years, and retired from District 7 after 18 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, Hope Sunday School Class, and Young-At-Heart. She received her Masters Degree from Appalachian State in 1954 and her undergraduate studies at Asheville Teachers' College. She was an avid ballroom dancer and world traveler. Survivors include her great-nephew and caregiver, Paul Wolfe of Pauline; a brother, William D. Pettit of Spartanburg; a stepson, A. Wade Giles; numerous step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a stepson, W. Frank Giles, Jr.; a brother, Donald O. Pettit; and a sister, Myrtis P. Pope. Visitation will be 7:00-9:00 PM Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, May 27, 2011 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miracle Hill Mission, 189 North Forest Street, Spartanburg, SC 29301; or Habitat for Humanity, 2270 S. Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
