Alvin Paul Gowan, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at his home. Born August 31, 1931, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Paul Butler and Grace Turner Gowan. Mr. Gowan was a retired carpenter with Christman and Parsons Inc., he served in the U. S. Army National Guard, and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Shirley Gowan; daughter, Wanda G. Easler (Dennis) of Boiling Springs, SC; brothers, John Gowan of Spartanburg, SC and Von Gowan of Prosperity, SC; granddaughters, Angela Romano (Mark) of Mooresville, NC, Jessica Swartz (David) of Sydney, Australia and Laura Paige Easler of Boiling Springs, SC, and great-grandsons, Marek and Maddox Romano of Mooresville, NC. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 PM on Friday, August 14, 2015, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307, with services following at 3:30 PM in the Chapel conducted by the Rev. Frank Walker. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mobile Meal Services, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family will be at the home.
