Alva Flynn

Alva James "A. J." Flynn, Jr., 75, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Monday, June 12, 2017, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care. Born July 27, 1941, in Campobello, SC, he was the son of the late Alva James Flynn, Sr. and Bessie Patterson Gibson and husband of the late Bertha Mae Gibbs Flynn. Mr. Flynn was a member of Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church where he served as a former chairman of the Trustees, as an usher, and was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He was a 1959 Graduate of Chapman High School, former baseball and basketball coach with The Salvation Army Youth Center, and retired from Mayfair Mills as the department manager of the Cloth Room as well as Warehouse and Supply Room after 50 years of service in the textile industry. Survivors include his son, James "Jimmy" Michael Flynn (Candy) of Woodruff, SC; grandchildren, Jake McCall, Corey McCall (Lauren), and Tara Lee Flynn Crowe (Brandon), all of Woodruff, SC; seven great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Kylie, Leonidas, Kathleen, Cowen, William, and Aria; daughter-in-law and son-in-law, Kathy and Jeff Wilkins of Poplar Springs, SC; father, Hubert Gibson of Pawley's Island, SC; and sister, Martha Hollman of Pawley's Island, SC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, Chris Edward Flynn; and daughter, Doris Elizabeth "Beth" Flynn. Visitation will be 3:30-4:45 PM Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Floyd's Boiling Springs Chapel, 4161 Hwy 9 N, Boiling Springs, SC 29316. Funeral services will follow at 5:00 PM, at the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Scott S. Gilmer. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Memorial Gardens, 4081 Hwy 9 N, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
