Joanne Cannon

December 5, 1934 — July 4, 2023

Spartanburg

Alice Joanne Blackwell Cannon, known to everyone as “Joanne” was born in Spartanburg, S.C. on December 5, 1934. She was the daughter of the late William Harrison Blackwell and Clarice Allen Blackwell, and the widow of Fred Franklin Cannon.

Joanne was a 1953 graduate of Spartanburg High School. She began her career at the Spartanburg Herald Journal. From there she worked in the administration office of Ryder Truck Rentals, Inc., where she eventually retired. She was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church and a former member of Green Street Baptist Church for over 50 years.

Joanne Cannon received great satisfaction while participating in her church activities and associating with her church family. GOD’s house was her happy place. In addition, there was no greater joy in her heart than visiting with her two grandchildren. She adored them and always made them a priority in her life.

She is survived by her son, Jeffery F. Cannon of Spartanburg, S.C. grandson, J. Logan Cannon (Jennifer) of Rock Hill, S.C., and granddaughter, Katherine C. Cannon of Nashville, TN; and one great grandson, William Logan Cannon of Rock Hill, S.C; nieces, Vicki Blackwell of Spartanburg, S.C, and Karen Potter of Walnut Grove, S.C.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Joanne was predeceased by her brother, D. Earl Blackwell.

The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm, Sunday, July 9, at The J. F. Floyd’s Mortuary Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, 29307. The funeral service will follow at 3pm. The burial will be private.
