Albert Bernard Martin, 94, of Spartanburg, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2022. Born March 17, 1929 in Chesnee, SC, he was the son of the late James Virgil Martin, Sr. and Lula Tate Martin, and the husband of the late Evelyn Chester Martin.
A US Army veteran, Mr. Martin served for a year in Italy in the Occupational Forces. A graduate of Wofford College, Albert worked as a Supervising Cartographer and was a Successful Living Christian Book Distributor. He was a member of Roebuck Baptist Church, where he was a Deacon, a member of the choir and the Men’s Fellowship Class.
Bernard and Evelyn loved to travel and visited all 50 states.
Survivors include his son, Randall Bernard Martin of Reno, NV, and twin daughters, Marian Martin McMahan (Ronnie) of Black Mountain, NC and Marilyn Martin Gibson of Boiling Springs, SC; grandchildren, David McMahan of Charlotte, NC, Laura McMahan Gravley (Josh) of Mills River, NC, Stephen McMahan (Kristin) of Deep Gap, NC, and Brianne Gibson of Greer, SC; great grandchildren, Colton Gravley, Daniel McMahan and Cora McMahan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his siblings, Inez Massey, Marie Holcombe Harris, James Virgil Martin, Jr., Nettie Forrester Finley, Thurman Martin and Willie Jean Daves Rhyne.
Visitation will be 2:00 – 2:45 pm Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Roebuck Baptist Church, 1979 E. Blackstock Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. A Funeral service will be at 3:00 pm at the church, conducted by The Rev. Chuck Miller. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
Memorials may be made to Roebuck Baptist Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
