Alba Threadgill

Alba Whitt Threadgill, 95, of Spartanburg and formerly of Cowpens, SC, died Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at White Oak Estates. Born February 21, 1920, in Cowpens, SC, she was the daughter of the late Frank Wilbur Whitt and Nellie Jane Calvert Whitt. She was married to the late L. M. "Bant" Threadgill for 60 years. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. A graduate of Cowpens High School Class of 1937, Mrs. Threadgill was a wonderful baker known for her pound cakes. She was a member of Cowpens First Baptist Church since 1957, a member of the Alba W. Threadgill Sunday School Class and WMU. Survivors include her children, Marian T. Hampton (Jim) of Spartanburg, SC, Nancy T. Davis (Lynn), Jill T. Thrift (Tony), Leslie Grey Threadgill, all of Cowpens, SC, and Don Calvert Threadgill of Spartanburg, SC; 10 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 4 step-grandchildren; and Wilma Dearbury and Judy Weber who were like daughters. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by siblings, Wilbur Whitt, Preston Whitt, Marie Taylor, Norma Wright, Frankie W. Chapman, and Virginia Whitt. Visitation will be 1:00-2:15 PM Sunday, July 12, 2015, at Cowpens First Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Bill Westafer, the Rev. Ronnell Owensby, and the Rev. Dr. M. B. Morrow. Burial will be in Pacolet First Baptist Church Cemetery, 310 W. Main St., Pacolet, SC 29372. Honorary escort will be members of the Alba W. Threadgill Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cowpens First Baptist Church Family Life/Kitchen Fund, 108 West Church Street, Cowpens, SC 29330.
