Agnes D. McElrath, 95, of Spartanburg, SC, died Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Mary Black Memorial Hospital. Born March 9, 1918, in Concord, NC, she was the daughter of the late William S. and Patricia B. Dowis, and widow of Loyce Cleveland McElrath. Mrs. McElrath retired as an administrative assistant with the SC Forestry Commission, was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, and a volunteer with the Soup Kitchen ministry. Surviving are her daughters, Elizabeth Brannon of Spartanburg, SC, and Jody Carpin (Dowe Winchell) of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren, Ashley Familia and Amy Familia, both of Charleston, SC, Andrew Carpin of Simpsonville, SC, and Matthew Carpin of Duncan, SC; great-grandchildren, Hannah Lassiter of Spartanburg, SC, Victoria Familia and Ella Crawford, both of Charleston, SC, and Kaylee Carpin of Simpsonville, SC; sisters, Martha Bray of Williamsburg, VA, and Sara Prince of Spartanburg, SC; and brothers, Jack Dowis (Kathy) of Florence, SC, and Richard Dowis (Ouida) of Waleska, GA. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Frances Smith. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Monday, February 10, 2014, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Steven H. Rhodes. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
