A. Ray Quinn, 69, of 106 Shannon Street, Spartanburg, SC, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of Eloise B. Quinn for 48 years and the son of the late W. Avery and Edith Donald Quinn. Born October 18, 1942 in Chester, he was a life long resident of Converse and the East side of Spartanburg. He was a member at Converse Baptist Church for over twenty-five years serving as deacon, treasurer, Sunday School superintendent, Sunday School teacher, choir member and part-time music director. For the past 25 years, he has been a member of Zion Hill Baptist church serving as Sunday School Teacher, Finance Committee Chairman, choir member, and part-time music director He was a life member and past Master of Converse Cowpens Masonic Lodge #210, past district deputy grand master of the Twenty-first Masonic district, active in the Spartanburg Valley of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry having been coroneted as a 33 Honorary. He was a charter member of the Converse Area Fire Department for over forty years having served as a commissioner of the Converse Area Fire District for 30 years. He was a member of the Friends of the Cowpens library where he served as treasurer. He worked for many years at Tietex Corporation in Spartanburg. He retired from the South Carolina Department of Corrections having worked at Tyger River Correctional Institute as manager of PI 1, lower yard. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a daughter, Ramona Q. Krouse( Scott) of Fingerville, SC; a son, Alex R. Quinn (Susan) of Bolivia, NC two grandsons, Kristofer and Nicholas Krouse and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Quinn was preceded in death by his sisters, Donaleen Q. Tennyson and Edith Kay Quinn. Visitation will be 10:00-11:45 AM Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 Noon in the Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Keith Davis.
