A. D. Sonny Baughman, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, November 24, 2014, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born January 1, 1931, in Augusta, GA, he was the son of the late Ernest Clifton and Lessie Boyd Baughman. A U. S. Army veteran, Mr. Baughman served as a medic in the Cold War Conflict and was assigned to the Nike Missile Operation. He was the owner and operator of Sonny's Welding and was a welding instructor at Daniel Morgan Vocational Center for 24 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, the Spartanburg Evening Lions Club, was named Lion of the Year 1991-1992, and was honored with The Melvin B. Jones Award 1997-1998. He served as an usher and former deacon at First Baptist Church, was a member of the Al Clark Sunday School Class, an avid golfer, and celebrated being a New Year's baby. Survivors include his wife, Harriet Reeves Baughman; children, Aaron Murray Baughman (Stephanie) of Spartanburg, SC, Leslie B. Lybrand (Bill) of Charleston, SC, Dana B. Anglin of Spartanburg, SC, and Betsy B. Mitchell (Kris) of Lexington, SC; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Ann B. Patrick of Charleston, SC; and special life-long friend, Dr. B. G. Stephens. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Marmo. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Wednesday, November 26, 2014, in the Parlor at First Baptist Church, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM in Davis Chapel at First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan and the Rev. Sal Barone with eulogist, Todd Stephens. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
