William Whitney Snell, 80, of Spartanburg, SC, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, September 20, 2021 at his home. He had been battling Alzheimer’s for many years. Born December 23, 1940 in Pampa, Texas, he was the son of the late Robert J. and Mary Hill Snell.
Mr. Snell graduated from Lumberton High School (NC) and University of the South, Sewanee (TN) where he played football and was a member of the Order of Gownsmen Academic Society and Sigma Nu Fraternity, Inc. He was an adjuster for many years, owner of Julian Calhoun Claims Services, Inc. in Spartanburg. He was active in church serving as a deacon, ministering on the prayer team and teaching Sunday school. He enjoyed woodworking, volleyball, the beach and playing card games or Scrabble.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Paula Lewis Snell, his daughters, Betty Wells (John) of Spartanburg, Deborah Archer (Jon) of Marietta, GA and Melissa Swann (Phillip) of Spartanburg, SC, his grandchildren, Brendan Wells (Jordan), Davis Smith (Nathan), Tristen Archer, Amber Archer, Bruce Archer, Russel Swann, Jr., James Swann, Nicholas Swann (Lily), and brothers, Robert J. Snell, Jr. and Richard F. Snell (Vicki), all of Costa Mesa, CA, a niece, Sarah Snell and nephew, Stephen Snell, also of Costa Mesa, Ca.
