Edward Garren, Jr.

Edward "Eddie" Carter Garren, Jr., 91, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Spartanburg Medical Center. A native of Spartanburg, he was the husband of 68 years to June Oxley Garren of Boiling Springs, SC, and son of the late Edward and Birdie Quillen Garren. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, Eddie was a lifelong member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He retired from Noland Company after 43 years of service and was last employed as a bailiff at the Spartanburg County Courthouse. He was a former charter member of West View Ruritan Club and Forest View Masonic Lodge. He was a graduate of Fairforest High School and Cecil's Business College. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cathy G. Baldwin of Boiling Springs, SC and Carolyn G. Grant of Rock Hill, SC; granddaughter, Andrea Smith Durante of Fort Mill, SC; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Smith and Emma Smith. He was predeceased by a sister, Doris G. Painter. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Friday, January 5, 2018, with funeral and military rites committal services following at 3:00 PM, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306, conducted by The Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
