Dorothy Switzer

Dorothy G. Switzer, 94, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, October 18, 2016, at Brookdale Skylyn. Born June 3, 1922, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Mark Twain Gwinn Sr. and Henrietta Locke Gwinn and widow of Patrick Thomas Switzer. Mrs. Switzer was a member of Southside Baptist Church where she was a church hostess and member of the Shade Tree Musicians. Survivors include her children, Diane S. Butts (Jacob) of Spartanburg, SC and Patrick Thomas Switzer II (Teresa) of Lyman, SC; grandchildren, Susan Elizabeth Butts Jackson (Brandon), Dr. David Edward Butts (Kristie), Jonathan Patrick Switzer, and Holly Nicole Switzer; great-granddaughter, Sadie Grace Butts; five nieces; and two nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Joshua Thomas Switzer; sister, Jennie Gwinn Vermillion; and brothers, Mark T. Gwinn Jr. and Charles Gwinn. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Friday, October 21, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306.
