Betty Turner Wood, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, devoted wife of 60 years to Billy W. Wood, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018, after an extended illness. Born November 1, 1934, in Woodruff, SC, Betty was the daughter of the late Wilford O. Turner and Mozelle R. Turner. A dedicated member of Southside Baptist Church for over 70 years, Betty served as secretary of the Intermediate Sunday School Department and was the Director of the YWA. She was employed for 43 years by J. M Smith Drug Company as office manager and later as corporate secretary. An active volunteer in her free time, Betty positively impacted many local charities such as the Spartanburg Children's Shelter, Mobile Meals, and The Salvation Army. A longtime supporter of Wofford College, Betty was presented The Distinguished Service Award in 2016. Betty was a former member of The James F. Byrnes Secretaries of America and Zonta International. In addition to her husband, survivors include many caring nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Doris T. Constan; and brother, Paul R. Turner. Visitation will be 6:00-8:30 PM Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, March 22, 2018, at Southside Baptist Church, 316 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306, officiated by The Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson and The Rev. Dr. Bruce Russell. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Honorary escort will be the Joy Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church. The family wishes to express appreciation to the many people who showed their love for Betty by their prayers, visits and other expressions of care. Betty will long be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and devotion to God, her family and friends.
